জগতের নাথ বা পিতা যিনি, তিনিই প্রভু জগন্নাথ। তিনি আদি। তিনি অনন্ত। অন্যান্য ঠাকুরের মতো তাঁর বিসর্জন নেই। শুধু আছে এক কলেবর থেকে অন্য কলেবর ধারণ। যে-বছর আষাঢ় মাস মলমাস হিসেবে নির্ধারিত হয়, সে মাসেই প্রভু তাঁর পুরোনো শরীর ত্যাগ করে নতুন দেহে প্রবেশ করেন। নতুন এই কলেবর প্রস্তুত হয় শঙ্খ, চক্র, গদা, পদ্ম চিহ্নবিশিষ্ট দারুবৃক্ষ দিয়ে।

Chiseled and incisive, this book provides interpretive accounts of major riots involving Hindus and Muslims in Bangladesh and West Bengal during and after the Partition of India: 1946, 1950 and 1964. Drawing on the extensive research into contemporary accounts and documents to chronicle these devastating riots, it identifies the key incidents, individuals, organizations, and trends associated with these purposeful bloodlettings and responses to them. Showing how and why the rule of law quickly eroded, Dr. Biswas shines his lights on mob violence and religious fundamentalism that ran amok. Equally important, the book shows how different human agencies of peace started operations to restore sanity within the society gripped in violence.
This is an article which was written sometime in 1966 when the present author received an official invitation from the editor Dr. Benoychandra Sen, M.A. (Gold Medallist), P.R.S., Ph. D (London), the Research Professor of Indology, Govt. Sanskrit College, Calcutta, for contributing such an article to a collected work entitled The Culture of Bengal scheduled to be published by Govt. Sanskrit College. But unfortunately this work has not yet been published. As have not been informed of anything about the publication of the said work for the last few years.
Now, we venture to publish it as a separate treatise. This is not an exhaustive study but a brief outline of a vast field of study. This study, we hope will help one to form some idea about certain aspects of popular religious life in Ancient Bengal.
